Frustrated by the lack of an actual definition for "clean & skin-safe" ingredients across the skincare industry, we have made it our mission to eradicate all potentially irritating ingredients from your skincare and, further down the line, all products that touch your skin like laundry products and household cleaners.
Our Face and Body serum is packed with only the most nourishing and hydrating ingredients, the ones your skin will soak up in seconds without you worrying about a reaction. It is fragrance free, dye free, lanolin and linalool free. Simply put, it's designed specifically for your skin, my skin, dry skin, oily skin, textured skin, combination skin, and the MOST reactive skin.
Mila MacCuish: My skin has been irritated for over a decade. Since the age of 13, I have dealt with dermatitis, itchy, flaky, red (and I mean RED) raised rashes on my eyes, cheeks, lips, neck, arms and hands. After countless tears, doctors visits, and ten years of questions from friends, family, and even complete strangers asking what was wrong with me, I made a huge discovery. I was allergic to common ingredients in my cosmetics, skincare, haircare, laundry, and cleaning products, even tampons. The worst part is that these ingredients are known irritants and can cause dry, flaky, red rashes over extended use.
The discovery improved my life tenfold but left a lot to be desired. Even after swapping out almost every product in my life, I found many of my new "clean" products didn't perform, “broke the bank”, and didn't speak to the average consumer my age. Additionally, a lot of prominent brands claiming they were "clean and sensitive skin safe" when, in reality, they still carried common skin-irritants in their products.
Lucy Ji: Over the last eight years, I noticed my skin becoming increasingly reactive. Skincare and makeup that once felt safe, suddenly I had irritated skin. I did not always have sensitive skin, I developed it after years of using products with irritating ingredients. My skin became unpredictable. One week it was oily, acne-prone, and inflamed; the next, dry, flaky, and tight.
As I started learning about the ingredients behind these reactions, it became evident that in North America, skincare and even everyday products like laundry detergents are unregulated. The burden is then placed on the consumer to decode complex ingredient labels, search for hidden irritants, and troubleshoot their own reactions. That’s why we created Irritated. Not just to create high-performance products, but to shift the responsibility back where it belongs: with the people making the products.
Together, we bonded over our uber-sensitive skin and wanted to create a product we knew would change our skin for the better.
Irritated started out of necessity and frustration. Our mission is to remove common skin-irritating ingredients from the products in your routines and provide effective solutions in a playful way. We are honoured to release a product that will serve as what we wish we had during our years of severe skin struggles, and are hopeful this will be just the start of banishing all irritation from your many routines.
